Playwright, Timothy Mooney will be on campus on Friday January 17 to conduct a workshop with theatre students. Mr. Mooney wrote the adaptation of the Moliere play, The Imaginary Invalid, to be presented at the Bonstelle Theatre in late February.
For over twenty years, Timothy Mooney has acted, directed, staged sword fights, juggled and filled positions from literary manager to artistic director at theatres across the country. He has been associated with some of the most influential champions of new plays, working with the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, the Seattle Repertory Theatre, and the Alley Theatre. Tim worked on the productions of Richard Greenberg's Broadway-bound Eastern Standard, and Larry Shue's final play, Wenceslas Square. In addition he has worked as resident director and literary manager at Chicago's Playwrights Center, before taking over as artistic director at the Stage Two Theatre Company in 1993, where he produced over 50 plays in less than five years, over thirty of which were original works. Tim is the author of Big Nothing, a play Stage Two premiered in 1994, which has also produced his Tartuffe and The Miser. He also writes children's stories, including "The Monsters Can't Find You In The Dark", and "Isaac and the Dinosaurs".
Mr. Mooney will meet with theatre department graduate students in the morning and undergraduates in the afternoon from 2:00-4:00 PM in the Bonstelle rehearsal Room located in Old Main. He is also scheduled to meet with the newly named cast of The Imaginary Invalid at their first rehearsal on Friday evening. Mr. Mooney's adaptation of the script will be a Michigan Premiere of the production. Dr. Blair Anderson, Chair of the Department of Theatre, will direct The Imaginary Invalid. The play will be performed at the Bonstelle Theatre February 28, March 1, 2, 7, 8,and 9. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 313-577-2972.
