Theatre Alumni recieves Arts Achievement Award

Kathleen Gaffney, winner of 2002 Arts Achievement Award will be presenting a program at the Hilberry Theatre on October 25 at 10:00am. Ms. Gaffney is being recognized for her contributions to Arts and Education through her work in the development of the concept of multiple intelligences. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from WSU in 1973. She has earned professional distinction as a playwright, artistic director, actress and arts-in-education specialist.

In 1992, Ms. Gaffney co-founded Artsgenesis, Inc., a non-profit arts-in-education organization. Artsgenesis mission states that their "Methodology of Arts Accelerated Learning* creatively fuses multiple intelligences theory, arts integrated curriculum, and humankind's quest for purpose and meaning."

As an actress, she has appeared in more than 250 plays from regional, off-Broadway and Broadway national tours. In film, she was featured opposite Tom Selleck in The Washington Affair. In 1991, she wrote and directed 171 JazZ Boulevard, which opened at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. She is the winner of the first-ever U.S. Department of Education's "John Stanford Education Heroe Award."
