Detroit, MI - Wayne State University Department of Music is proud to present New York Lyric tenor and WSU Alumnus, Raymond Jordan on Friday, September 13, 2002 as part of their 2002-03 Professional Artists Concert and Lecture Series. Jordan will perform a short vocal recital followed by a lecture on the vocal music industry at 11:45 AM in the Schaver Music Recital Hall located in the Old Main Building, 4841 Cass Ave. at Hancock. Raymond Jordan, a Detroit-native, received his Bachelor of Music from Wayne State University in 1988 and has since been seen on stages in New York and on television shows such as The Cosby Show, Another World, As the World Turns, One Life to Live and others. Jordan was also the featured soloist for Detroit's Papal Visit to the Pontiac Silverdome and the Mass for the Shut Ins aired on CBS Television. He has been involved in national tours such as Ragtime and Showboat and portrayed Satchel Paige in the Theatre Works/U.S.A. production of Play to Win. Jordan has acted in an array of regional theatre including Porgy & Bess, Jesus Christ Superstar, A Hard Working Man, S'Wonderful and many others.
Raymond Jordan's versatile career also includes many concert performances, as well as soloist performances for cathedrals and churches throughout Detroit and New York. He received his vocal training with Wayne State's Frances Brockington, director of WSU's Vocal Division, as well as Carlos Serrano and Thomas Parisi. Raymond was first-prize winner of the Elizabeth Gardner Vocal Award and semifinalist for the International Young Singer of the Year Competition in Illangolen, Wales.
Jordan recently released his debut album, Call on God, in February 2002.
