Susan Zwieg has been named Director of the Office of University Admissions by Vice President of Student Development and Campus Life Charles Brown, effective immediately. Zwieg will report to Tom Sees, associate director of Student Development and Campus Life.
Zwieg, of Detroit, worked most recently as an admissions consultant to the University of Houston and as an adjunct professor at a community college in Lancaster, Calif. She has more than 14 years of higher education admissions experience. She began her professional career as a student services coordinator for Milwaukee Area Technical College. She was assistant director of admissions and then became director of student outreach services at the University of Houston, an urban institution with 32,000 students, from 1986-1999.
"Susan will focus on students bringing new expertise and enthusiasm to the job. Her experience at a large urban university will help her hit the ground running at Wayne," said Brown.
As the person in charge of admission, Zwieg will work with university officials to find ways to smooth the process and attract new students.
Her responsibilities at Wayne State are two-fold. First, she will work to establish a strong recruitment program, branching out into other urban Midwest areas, out state Michigan and the international community. Second, she will refine the operational component of the admissions office so it can truly provide high-quality service for potential students.
Zwieg's enthusiasm for Detroit will be a boon to her recruiting efforts. "I love an urban university. I would pass up opportunities most everywhere in order to work in this environment. Detroit, like Houston, is diverse and exciting, and Wayne State is a place where we can make a difference," said Zwieg.
Wayne State University is a premier institution offering more than 350 academic programs through 14 schools and colleges to more than 31,000 students in metropolitan Detroit.
