New regional transportation authority: pipe dream or practical solution?
The top executives of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties and the city of Detroit have announced intentions to cooperate in forming a new regional transportation authority to provide more efficient transportation. A rapid bus system, possibly combined with light rail, is one possibility that has been mentioned. As the regional mass-transportation story unfolds, Wayne State has professors who can offer perspectives on the developments, including political hurdles and the pros and cons of such a system in a metro area where the automobile is king.
