Wayne State University presents its 31st annual Salute to Downtown Detroit concert at noon Tuesday, Nov. 25, in Old St. Mary's Church in Greektown.
Professor Dennis Tini, music department chairman, continues the gala musical tradition that Professor Emeritus Malcolm Johns began in 1966. Johns also will conduct the group.
The WSU choruses and orchestra will combine to fill the historic church with music to open the holiday season. The program will include Mozart's Coronation Mass and works for organ, wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz ensemble and choruses.
Traditionally, the audience joins the ensembles in singing Hymn of Thanksgiving and St. George's Windsor.
Old St. Mary's Church is located at 646 Monroe. Parking is available in the Monroe Street structure across from the church.
The concert is free, although donations will be accepted. For more information call the WSU department of music at (313) 577-1795.
