Psychiatrist to probe Devil's Night activities at WSU seminar

Mindy Thompson Fullilove will conduct an informal seminar on Devil's Night activities from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in 137 Manoogian at Wayne State University. The department of anthropology sponsors the seminar that is open to students and faculty. Fullilove is coming to Detroit to study the community efforts involved in the Devil's Night Campaign. She is interested in learning how 35,000 people mobilize to help and what it is they do. The research psychiatrist from New York State Psychiatric Institute is also an associate professor of clinical psychiatry and public health at Columbia University. She received a bachelor's degree from Bryn Mawr College and a master's degree in nutrition and a doctorate from Columbia University. She trained in psychiatry at New York Hospital-Westchester Division and at Montefiore Hospital. Fullilove has done research on substance abuse and HIV infection with particular emphasis on crack cocaine and women's risk for AIDS. Her current work deals with health risk due to lifetime trauma, violence and environmental breakdown. She has research grants from the United Hospital Fund and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Environmental Hazard and Health Efforts. In 1995 Fullilove served on two national committees--the National AIDS Drug Development Task Force and Center for Substance Abuse Treatment National Advisory Council. She joined three editorial boards, Current Issues in Public Health, American Journal of Psychiatry and the Journal of Lesbian and Gay Health.
