Henry Ford Health System and Wayne State University Enter into Partnership Discussions

Wayne State University and Henry Ford Health System announced Tuesday they have started extensive discussions toward forming a partnership between the nation\'s largest medical school campus and the seven-hospital network. The talks are taking place over the next 90 days, with the aim of implementing an agreement by mid-2010. The collaboration would be in the areas of medical education, research and clinical services. Wayne State University President Jay Noren and WSU School of Medicine Interim Dean Valerie Parisi comment in some of the stories. Wayne gets $2.7M for obsessive-compulsive study

Wayne State University has announced a $2.7 million expansion of a research grant. The project, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, is the first combined imaging and genetics research study on obsessive-compulsive disorder. \"Initial findings at Wayne State University have shown that glutamate plays a key role in OCD,\" said David Rosenberg, the Miriam L. Hamburger Endowed Chair of Child Psychiatry and professor of psychiatry in the School of Medicine. An artistic vision: The Red River Artists Center

While River Rouge has had to deal with a lot of the stereotypical issues that have plagued Detroit, artist Rick Manore is attempting to help transform the city through his artists' collective, the Red River Artists Center. Robin Boyle, professor of urban economic development at Wayne State University, said that to succeed, the Red River Artist Center needs a regional effort to draw on the region\'s wealth. \"It\'s about the economic structure of the region in the long run. They have got to be able to sell their goods and services in the community," said Boyle.

Wayne has online training for response to shooter

The Wayne State University Police Department, in collaboration with the Wayne State Department of Organization and Employee Development, within the Division of Human Resources, is launching an online educational curriculum that teaches civilians -- including students, faculty and staff -- how to react in an active shooter emergency. The program, \"Be Prepared: Surviving an Active Shooter Incident,\" is available through Wayne State\'s \"Blackboard\" Web-based learning management system.
