Papers now being accepted for 2024 Asselin Award

The Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences is accepting submissions for the 2024 Asselin Award.

The award competition is open to medical students, residents and fellows, and graduate students in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences who have submitted papers for publication and presented a paper at a national scientific meeting or at the department chair’s Grand Rounds Conference since June 2023, or who will have presented a paper by June 30.

Two awards will be presented: one $2,500 award will go to a general psychiatry resident or child/adolescent psychiatry fellow; the second $2,500 award to a WSU graduate, doctoral or medical student.

The deadline for submission of papers is March 15.

Applicants should forward their paper, curriculum vitae and a letter of support from a mentor verifying the author’s status as a student and focus on the trainee’s involvement in the specific project.

Send submissions to: Richard Balon, M.D., Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences Asselin Award Committee Chair, Tolan Park Medical Building, 3901 Chrysler Service Drive, Suite 3-A, Detroit, MI 48201. Email: rbalon@wayne.edu.

The Asselin Award Research Committee will select the winning papers, and the winners will be announced at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences Graduation Ceremony, scheduled for June 7.

Dean Asselin, M.D., a practicing psychiatrist, established an endowed fund to stimulate medical students, residents and graduate students conducting studies in the department to present submitted or published papers read at the grand rounds or at national scientific meetings.
