Learn to leverage AAMC resources through WIMS webinar Dec. 12

The Wayne State University School of Medicine Women in Medicine and Science chapter will present “Leveraging Resources of the Association of American Medical Colleges to Support One’s Professional Development” on Dec. 12.

The one-hour webinar, which starts at noon, features the AAMC’s long-time Chief of Staff Jennifer Schlener speaking on how to access the organization’s resources to network with peers, identify ways to engage at the national level, and how to utilize the Crucial Conversations model to structure effective conversations about mentoring and sponsorship.

Schlener supports the work of the president and chief executive officer, and champions and supports the implementation of the AAMC’s strategic plan and organization-wide efforts. She recently led the execution of the merger of the Association of Academic Health Centers into the AAMC. Serving as an advisor on governance matters, she is responsible for the work of the Governance, Nominating and Leadership Development committee of AAMC’s Board of Directors.  She has spoken nationally on governance matters, including executive compensation, the imperative for board assessment and continuous board improvement. 

In her executive role, she oversees the functioning of the office of the president, which includes the AAMC’s strategy and innovation development function and internal audit function. Her team supports the effective functioning of the executive leadership team and the association’s presidential awards program. She drives and champions the alignment of culture, strategy and leadership, and she facilitates and provides leadership to internal organizational development activities.

Schlener is a certified trainer of Crucial Accountability and Crucial Conversations, and has served as faculty for the cohort-based program Leading Organizations to Health. She is a frequent speaker on adaptive leadership, crucial conversations, engaging in effective meetings and topics related to relational leadership practices.
