Breast Cancer Symposium 2022 scheduled for Feb. 28

The Breast Cancer Symposium 2022, taking place virtually this year, is scheduled for Feb. 26, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sponsored by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Wayne State University School of Medicine, the conference will be presented virtually via Motown Digital.

The keynote speakers will be E. Shelley Hwang M.D., M.P.H., the Mary and Deryl Hart Distinguished Professor of Surgery and vice chair of Research in the Department of Surgery, and leader of the Breast Cancer Disease Group at Duke University and the Duke Cancer Institute; and Hope Rugo, M.D., FASCO, professor of Medicine and director of Breast Oncology and Clinical Trials Education at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center and the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The day’s agenda includes:

7:50 to 8 a.m.: Opening remarks, Lydia Choi, M.D., and Hadeel Assad, M.D.

8 to 8:30 a.m.: “Breast Reconstruction Update,” Faisal Al-Mufarrej, M.D.

8:30 to 9 a.m.: “Role in Oncology Pain Management – Palliative Care,” Michael Stellini, M.D.

9 to 9:30 a.m.: “Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome: Update on Targeted Therapies,” Michael Simon, M.D.

9:30 to 10 a.m.: “Nutrition Recommendations for Breast Cancer,” Margaux Empey, M.P.H., R.D.

10 to 10:15 a.m.: Break

10:15 to 11 a.m.: “Observation for DCIS,” E. Shelley Hwang M.D., M.P.H.

11 to 11:45 a.m.: “Updates in Management of Early Stage HR+ Breast Cancer,” Hope Rugo, M.D.

11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.: Case Presentations Discussion Panel

12:45 to 1 p.m.: Closing remarks

The cost to attend is $25 for physicians, pharmacists, mid-level providers, retired physicians, nurses and other allied health providers. The conference is free for fellows, residents and medical students.
