Sixth Medical Education Research and Innovation Conference set for Oct. 10

The sixth annual Medical Education Research and Innovation Conference on Oct. 10 will feature a keynote address on the role of artificial intelligence in medical education.

The Wayne State University School of Medicine will host its sixth annual Medical Education Research and Innovation Conference on Oct. 10.
 
The conference, which will take place from noon to 4 p.m. in the Scott Hall Cafeteria and the Margherio Family Conference Center, showcases medical education research and innovation projects conducted by students, residents, staff and faculty.

The keynote speaker, Marc Triola, M.D., is the associate dean for Educational Informatics and director of the Institute for Innovations in Medical Education at the New York University School of Medicine. He will speak on the role of artificial intelligence in medical education.

Dr. Triola’s research focuses on the disruptive effects of the present revolution in medical education, driven by technological advances, big data and learning analytics. He has worked to create a continuously learning medical education system that includes computer-based learning tools and new ways to integrate electronic data into educational research.

He has served as director of the Division of Educational Informatics within NYU School of Medicine; chief of the Section of Medical Informatics within the Division of General Internal Medicine; associate director of the Center for Health Information Preparedness; and director of Research for Advanced Educational Systems, also within the NYU School of Medicine.
  
Works that will be featured include:

Medical Education Research: Research related to the learning process that occurs within a medical education setting. Topics include, but are not limited to, learner characteristics, optimizing the learning process, assessment and evaluation, professional development, instruction design, technology in the learning environment and wellbeing, and quality improvement.

Medical Education Innovation: Innovative curricula that address a current issue within medical education, based on learning principles and designed to meet a specific need, including health and wellness, quality improvement, patient safety, interprofessional education and service learning.
 
Works in Progress: Research and innovation projects under development.
