BCAP summer program begins seventh year

The 2021 Biomedical Career Advancement Program, a summer research experience for high school students interested in pursuing careers in health science, will kick off its seventh year this summer.

Seventy metropolitan Detroit students were selected to participate in the program this year.

BCAP is a collaborative program between Wayne State University School of Medicine, the Michigan Area Health Education Center, the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network and the Detroit Public Schools Community District. The program was established in 2014 by Jennell White, Ph.D., an assistant professor of WSU Pharmacology.

Due to the current pandemic, the program will be conducted in a virtual environment. Students will be matched with faculty mentors and will complete a research project and present their findings in a closing ceremony. Students will also attend professional development sessions and conduct laboratory experiments.

After successfully completing the BCAP Program and presenting their research projects, students will receive a monetary award and certificate at the Aug. 6 closing ceremony.
