William Bowes appointed interim vice dean of Finance and Administration

William Bowes, former senior vice chancellor for Finance and Administration/chief financial officer for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, has been named interim vice dean of Finance and Administration for the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

His appointment is effective March 22.

Bowes replaces Doug Skrzyniarz, who is leaving the School of Medicine for another position.

Dean Mark E. Schweitzer, M.D., said Bowes will serve until a search committee identifies a qualified candidate for the permanent position. The committee has already begun screening applicants.

“Will is a seasoned professional with experience managing complex higher education organizations, with substantial and strategic knowledge of finance, facilities, budgeting, human resources, payroll, student financial assistance, information technology and organizational planning,” Dean Schweitzer said.

In addition to his role at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Bowes also held the position of chief financial officer for the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities Board of Regents for Higher Education, senior vice president for Operations and senior vice president for Finance and Administration at Georgia Health Sciences University, vice chancellor for Fiscal Affairs and treasurer of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents, vice president for Finance and Administration at Southern Connecticut State University, and assistant commissioner of Financial Affairs and director of Budget and Finance for the Connecticut Department of Higher Education.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics at Hofstra University and a master’s degree in Urban and Policy Sciences from the W. Averell Harriman School for Policy and Management at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
