Wayne Pediatrics collects thousands of donations for community in first successful diaper drive

Diapers in Car

Physicians and staff at Wayne Pediatrics wrapped up a successful community diaper drive benefitting families in need with babies and toddlers across metropolitan Detroit. The effort was a first for Wayne Pediatrics, and the entire team was involved.

The diaper drive, held Jan. 4 through Feb. 24 at the practice’s 400 Mack Ave. Detroit location, resulted in nearly 3,500 donations.

In addition to the generosity of the community and staff for the diaper collection -- which collected diapers of all sizes -- donated items also included children’s wipes and creams, burping cloths, diaper bags and feminine products.

The Wayne Pediatrics’ diaper drive was coordinated in partnership with the local nonprofit Metropolitan Detroit Diaper Bank, an organization serving Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. The first-time event was so successful the drive may become an annual event.

Wayne Pediatrics is the academic clinical practice that is home to Wayne State University Department of Pediatrics faculty physicians.
