Surrounded by family and friends, Dr. Michael Busuito and Sunny Reddy took the oath of office and were officially installed to the Wayne State University Board of Governors on Jan. 16 during a ceremony in the McGregor Memorial Conference Center.
Busuito, who has served on the Board of Governors since 2017, and Reddy were reelected and elected, respectively, in November by Michigan voters. The two, who met a year ago and campaigned together across the state, will serve eight-year terms that expire at the end of 2032. The newly constituted board will hold its first meeting Feb. 14.
After being sworn in, both delivered remarks highlighting why Wayne State is special to them and the difference it makes in the lives of others.
"Wayne State has always been more than a university to me. It’s a community where diversity is celebrated, challenges are embraced, and dreams come alive," said Reddy. "As a student here, I was inspired by my peers, guided by incredible faculty, and supported by this amazing institution. My goal is to ensure every student has the same opportunities to grow, succeed, and thrive."
Busuito said, “This is where the American Dream still lives. Nobody serves first-generation college students like Wayne State University does in this state.”
