The Wayne State University Libraries will hold its first-ever campuswide Research Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the David Adamany Undergraduate Library (UGL) atrium and the new UGL Hub. The event, coordinated in conjunction with Open Access Week, will connect students and faculty with campus research resources and expertise.
Alongside campus partners, University Libraries will host a Research Resource Fair and a series of lightning talks covering all aspects of the research process at Wayne State. Faculty and students will have the opportunity to learn about the various aspects of conducting research, from understanding Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols and effective data management techniques to getting assistance with research analysis or participating as a human subject. Undergraduate students will discover ways to participate in research, learn about their rights as research subjects and explore opportunities to earn extra credit through study participation. The fair will also showcase resources for students interested in initiating their own undergraduate research projects.
"This event is a great opportunity for our community to engage with the full spectrum of research support available at Wayne State," said Marianne Stowell Bracke, data librarian at the Wayne State University Libraries. "Whether you're a seasoned researcher or a student just getting interested in research, there will be something for everyone."
The Research Resource Fair will feature representatives from:
- University Libraries
- SONA (Department of Communication Research Participant Pool)
- Human Research Protection Program/IRB
- Export Control & Regulatory Compliance
- Research Integrity Office
- Financial Conflict of Interest
- Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program
- Office of Technology Commercialization
- Research Design and Analysis
- Research Development/Sponsored Program Administration
- Computing and Information Technology
Alongside the fair, a series of lightning talks will take place in the new UGL Hub, adjacent to the UGL atrium space. During the five- to 10-minute presentations, experts from across Wayne State will share essential information on various research-related topics related to their areas of expertise. Recognizing the diverse schedules of attendees, the event will also feature a dedicated consultation space. This area will allow those who miss specific talks to connect directly with experts.

Open Access Week is an invaluable chance to connect the global momentum toward the open sharing of knowledge with the advancement of policy changes and the importance of social issues affecting people around the world. The event is celebrated by individuals, institutions and organizations around the world, and its organization is led by a global advisory committee that selects each year’s theme.
