Wayne State University and Detroit City Football Club (DCFC) on Oct. 2 announced a new partnership highlighting the organizations’ shared values, commitment to education and community engagement, and deep-rooted ties to the city of Detroit.
Faculty and staff will benefit from the partnership – in which Wayne State becomes DCFC's exclusive higher education partner – through special ticket discounts beginning with DCFC matches on Oct. 12 and 19.
The agreement also provides ticket discounts for students, and will open doors for current and future WSU students by establishing a robust internship program with Detroit City FC. The program extends Wayne State’s College to Career commitment by offering invaluable hands-on experience in areas such as sports management, marketing, and event coordination.
“Wayne State consistently provides our students with a top-tier academic experience in the classroom. We also want every student on our campus to benefit from exciting learn-by-doing opportunities that prepare them for success in their future careers,” said WSU President Kimberly Andrews Espy, Ph.D. “Many of our students and faculty choose Wayne State because of our unique relationship with Detroit. The growth of Detroit City FC is one of the best stories in American sports, and now our university and students will benefit from it.”
As part of the collaboration, the Wayne State University logo will proudly adorn the top back of Detroit City FC’s men’s and women’s jerseys, symbolizing an alliance that will engage current and prospective students, faculty, and staff. The WSU logo will also be on jerseys of Detroit-area youth teams.
The new Wayne State University-branded jerseys will debut at Detroit City FC’s first match of the 2025 season.
