MEDIA ADVISORY: Wayne State Police and Wolverine State Search and Recovery providing urban K9 search and rescue training in Detroit

Who: The Wayne State University Police Department’s K9 unit and Wolverine State Search and Recovery

What: Wayne State University and Wolverine State Search and Recovery are joining forces to provide a three-day seminar focused on training and certifying K9 search and rescue teams in Michigan, with a focus on urban environments. Media are invited to observe, record and cover the K9 training activities.

When: June 15-17, 2023, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Where: The seminar will include 12 K9 teams from across the state, who will train in various locations throughout Detroit. Morning briefings will take place at the WSUPD headquarters, located at 6050 Cass Avenue, Detroit. For specific locations and times, please contact Casandra Ulbrich with Wolverine State Search and Recovery at 586-322-0919.

Why: Certified K9 teams are used to assist law enforcement in locating missing persons.

Based in Southeast Michigan, Wolverine State Search and Recovery (WSSAR) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides missing person search and rescue/recovery services to law enforcement agencies. This all-volunteer group of experienced K9 teams specializes in scent-specific trailing and Human Remains Detection (HRD). WSSAR handlers and their K9s have participated in missing person searches in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
