A resource hub for the LGBTQ community at Wayne State University, WSU Pride, has been created to bring together students, faculty and staff and to provide a one-stop location for news, resources, events and more.
Pride.wayne.edu contains valuable resources for students and employees about campus organizations, support services, and courses and research guides. The website also includes a comprehensive list of events, hosted by the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement (OMSE), the Dean of Students Office (DOSO), the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies (GSW) Program, and others. WSU will recognize Coming Out Week, which celebrates and supports the self-expression and acceptance of the LGBTQ community surrounding National Coming Out Day on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Additionally, the Wayne State University Out List has brings visibility to the many LGBTQ employees within the campus community. The list is publicly posted for students, faculty, staff and the general public to access should they need or want a point of contact in the LGBTQ Warrior community. The list is completely voluntary, and individuals can add or remove themselves at any time. To include yourself on the Out List, please complete this form. Students with academic interests in gender and sexuality can take courses in the interdisciplinary GSW Program, which offers a major and minor in gender, sexuality, and women's studies and a minor in queer studies (new in 2021).
“The WSU Pride website helps bring further visibility to our LGBTQ campus community. It has been my dream to further the awareness of the queer population on campus, and this is another step toward that goal,” said Brandon Shamoun, assistant director of student involvement for DOSO and co-chair of the Queer Faculty and Staff Organization. “Wayne State is an affirming place to study, work and grow, and that's in large part due to our community's commitment to inclusivity and self-expression."
