College of Nursing’s bachelor of science program ranked in the top 7% by U.S. News & World Report

Wayne State University's College of Nursing ranks in the top 7% of bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) programs in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report.

In U.S. News & World Report’s first-ever rankings of undergraduate bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) programs, released today, Wayne State University's College of Nursing ranked 43 out of nearly 700 programs nationwide.

This ranking places WSU’s College of Nursing in the top 7% of BSN programs in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. Based on the judgments of the deans and senior faculty members of nursing schools and departments at institutions around the country, 694 undergraduate BSN degree-granting nursing programs met the criteria for the rankings.

“I attribute this well-deserved recognition to the College of Nursing’s world-class faculty and exceptionally talented nursing students,” said College of Nursing Dean Laurie M. Lauzon Clabo. “This ranking is not only a testament to how far we have come, but also shines a spotlight on the trajectory we continue to strive toward as we prepare future nurses to meet the health needs of individuals, families and communities.”

In order to have received the survey and be ranked, an institution’s nursing school or department that offers the BSN degree had to meet two sets of criteria:

  • Be accredited at the bachelor’s level by either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
  • Be a regionally accredited institution that awarded at least 25 BSN degrees, according to 2018-19 data from the IPEDS Data Center.

The recent accolades are part of a trend at the College of Nursing, after it continued its trajectory of unprecedented gains in last year’s U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate School rankings. The College of Nursing’s doctorate of nursing practice program was ranked at #31 and the nursing master’s program at #40. They remain the second-highest ranked MSN and DNP programs in Michigan.
