The entire Wayne State University community is excited about the fall semester, which will see the return of in-person classes and many beloved campus traditions. While there has been much progress, the best way to ensure a safe return this September is for as many members of the campus community as possible to get their COVID-19 vaccine.
The best reason to get vaccinated is to protect the health and safety of the community, but WSU is offering some exciting extra incentives through the new Warrior Summer Vaccine Incentive. All faculty and staff who have received at least their first vaccination by Sunday, Aug. 29, can enter weekly drawings to win a variety of prizes, including a free laptop, a 60-inch television and a year of paid parking.
“Like many of you, I am excited for campus to return to its former vibrancy and to greet friends and colleagues unmasked and in person,” said President M. Roy Wilson. “Vaccination is a critical step toward our safe return to normalcy. While we urge all students, faculty and staff to get vaccinated for the health and safety of themselves and our community, we hope that this terrific program will show our appreciation for those who are already vaccinated and encourage those who still need to be vaccinated.”
Prizes will be awarded weekly through August, and the grand prize drawing will take place Aug. 30. To be eligible for the weekly drawings, faculty and staff must upload a photo of their vaccine card using this form beginning now through 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 29. Faculty and staff only need to enter once to be included in each drawing, and are eligible regardless of where or when they were vaccinated. Those who participated in the April vaccine incentive will need to resubmit to participate.
“From the start of the pandemic, the Wayne State community has come together to prioritize health and safety above all else, and we have listened to the science,” said Laurie Lauzon Clabo, chair of Wayne State’s Campus Health Committee, chief health and wellness officer, and dean of the College of Nursing. “As the number of vaccinated individuals has increased, the number of COVID-19 cases has sharply declined – this is reason for great optimism and a testament to the efficacy and safety of the vaccines.”
Those seeking to get vaccinated can schedule an appointment at the Campus Health Center — which now offers a choice of the Pfizer, Moderna, or single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines — or find another convenient location. Because vaccination is important for the entire campus community and a safe return to campus, the Warrior Summer Vaccine Incentive program will also include prizes for vaccinated students.
A full schedule of drawings and prizes is available below and on the university’s coronavirus webpage; winners are limited to one weekly prize and all weekly prize winners are eligible for a grand prize. Winners will be contacted via their WSU email and have 60 days to accept their prize. Full terms and conditions are available online.
Full details about the raffle are available on the incentive program’s webpage. The latest information about Wayne State’s COVID-19 response is available online at wayne.edu/coronavirus. Additional information about the COVID-19 vaccines can be found online.
