Wayne State University Testing, Evaluation and Research Services continues to provide excellent service, earns recertification and national recognition

With millions of educational, certification and licensure tests administered in the United States annually, the need for secure testing environments and trained testing staff has never been greater. Wayne State University’s Testing, Evaluation and Research Services has established itself as a leader in the field, achieving national recognition for excellent testing practices.

WSU’s Testing, Evaluation, and Research Services has been recertified by the National College Testing Association (NCTA), whose rigorous criteria are based on the NCTA professional standards and guidelines, which were developed to guide post-secondary test centers in the delivery of quality testing programs. Wayne State University first became NCTA certified in 2014.

NCTA’s members includes more than 2,200 testing professionals from 650 colleges and universities, as well as 50 test companies and organizations offering test-related products and services. WSU’s testing center is one among a growing number of locations in the U.S. and Canada to have completed the intensive recertification process, the results of which will be in place for five years.

“This recertification recognizes our longstanding commitment to following the highest standards for testing administration,” said Andrew Ura, manager of testing and assessment.   “We take great pride in providing excellent service to the Wayne State community, and we look forward to continuing our work in support of the university’s efficiency and success.”

Testing, Evaluation and Research Services provides a variety of services, including placement exams for course selections, credit by examination, test-out options for general education courses and the administration of national tests, including the GRE, Praxis, LSAT and TOEFL. They are also responsible for the student evaluation of teaching, helping faculty improve testing, assessment and scoring processes, and maintaining large-scale university assessments such as the NSSE, FSSE or CIRP.

“We are especially proud of the adjustments we have made to adapt to the Warrior Safe is Warrior Strong requirements, which have allowed students to take their exams safely and securely at home, maintaining social distancing requirements,” said Laura Woodward, director of testing and assessment.
