Office of Internal Audit official supporter of International Fraud Awareness Week, Nov. 15-21

It’s that time of year again. Wayne State University’s Office of Internal Audit will host a week of activities in support of the International Fraud Awareness Week, Nov. 15 to 21.

Fraud Examiners globally will join the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) in celebrating its’ 20th anniversary of highlighting fraud prevention and awareness. Organizations worldwide lose an estimated 5 percent of annual revenues to fraud, according to a study conducted by the ACFE.  The good news is that there are basic steps that management can take immediately to lessen your department’s vulnerability to fraud.

Do you know the most common behavioral red flags of fraud? What are the top five fraud schemes currently observed due to COVID 19? Learn this and more during one of the many sessions. Explore how pressure, opportunity and rationalization — called the Fraud Triangle — can come together to influence an individual to commit fraud. To help promote anti-fraud awareness and education, WSU’s Office of Internal Audit will host a number of virtual Fraud Informational sessions on the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 17             1 to 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 18        11 a.m. to noon
  • Thursday, Nov. 19            11 a.m. to noon
  • Friday, Nov. 20                 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

To register for one of the above sessions or schedule a session for your department on a different date and time, please email Fannie Moore at fmoore@wayne.edu.  To report suspected fraud, unethical behavior or suspicious activity at Wayne State University, please go to internalaudit.wayne.edu to submit an Anonymous Tip Form or contact the Fraud Hotline at 313-577-5138.
