New leader and staff remote learning offerings available

More than 228 participants attended the Leading Virtually @ WSU webinar series over the summer, with 90% returning to attend subsequent sessions. Offered by the HR Restart Learning Council, in partnership with Mike Ilitch School of Business faculty and C&IT leaders, the six webinars explored challenges leaders face as they build effectiveness, efficiency and engagement in a virtual work environment.

“The webinars were very well received,” said Dawn Aziz, director of organization and employee development. “Participants shared experiences openly in a safe space, offered solutions and engaged with experts across campus.”

By popular demand, the series has added an additional session. “Virtual Corrective Action” will be offered on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from noon to 1p.m. This webinar will help leaders prepare for and hold sensitive remote conversations with individuals who are not achieving desired performance results. Log in to Academica and register through Training, Seminars and Workshops.

The HR Restart Learning Council will offer “Professionalism in a Virtual World” beginning Sept. 25. This series of short episodes will explore different topics, with the goal of enabling employees to become more intentional about how they wish to be viewed as professionals.

Topics in the series include how employees experience the workplace in different ways, what professionalism means to everyone, virtual signatures, and establishing and reinforcing professionalism.
Each episode will feature perspectives, stories and tips from colleagues across campus, as well as best practices, reflection questions and connections that can be made for support. Links to access each episode through the Accelerate eLearning library will be available soon.

“Working Virtually” is a self-paced learning program currently available in the Accelerate eLearning library. Short e-courses, books, videos and job aids offer a variety of methods to meet employee learning needs on demand. Resources were selected based on challenges shared in the May remote work survey.
