CHC Patient Portal reduces visit times and enables safer visits

The launch of the Campus Health Center’s (CHC) Patient Portal is more imperative now than ever in ensuring the efficiency and safety of all patients in the wake of COVID-19. The Patient Portal allows patients to pay bills, fill out important paperwork and access personal medical information entirely online, with no face-to-face interaction needed.

“Being able to complete your bill payment, fill out forms, and access medical test results safely and electronically is a game changer,” said Bre Young, CHC’s community outreach coordinator.

Using the Patient Portal to fill out forms and insurance information before arrival makes wait times and visits shorter. It also makes processing these forms quicker and more efficient, reducing the possibility of error in transferring handwritten information into the CHC’s systems.

“If you are a parent of a Wayne State student who is on your insurance, it is especially helpful to use the Patient Portal to fill out your insurance information and upload copies of the front and back of the card so there are no last-minute phone calls looking for insurance cards,” explained Young.

In addition to making  visits more efficient, filling out information in the portal ahead of time also makes patients, their loved ones and the CHC staff safer. Shorter wait times and visit — along with reducing the transfer of physical materials such as paper and pens — can help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This is only one of many steps that the CHC is taking to limit close contact between patients and staff to help prevent transmission of the virus. To see the full scale of precautions the CHC is taking, please review the guidelines for appointments and coronavirus at the CHC’s website.

The Patient Portal can also be accessed at the CHC’s website.  When patients create an account, they will be prompted to fill out personal information such as their name, email and address before continuing. Patients should use their WSU email with their Wayne State AccessID (the two-letter, four-digit identification number on the front of all OneCards) to ensure prompt access to the Patient Portal. For some features, such as paying your bill, patients will not be required to log in to an account.
