Apply by March 1 to be considered for 2020-21 scholarship opportunities

Students are encouraged to submit one centralized application to become contenders for any of the roughly 900 scholarship awards available for the 2020-21 academic year using the Office of Student Financial Aid’s scholarship portal. Applications are due March 1, 2020, and awards will be announced in the summer.

Applications submitted using the portal, My Scholarship Portfolio, allow eligible students to be considered for any of the Office of Student Financial Aid’s donor-funded scholarships, as well as various private scholarships within Wayne State's schools and colleges. Most applicants can expect to complete approximately 10 questions; options such as major, class standing and GPA will automatically populate.

“Students should take advantage of this portal because there are tons of scholarship dollars available that departments are eager to award,” said Lenisa Daniels, a scholarship specialist in Wayne State’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

More than 1,700 students were awarded private scholarships in the previous academic cycle.

Daniels also recommends that students are as detailed as possible when completing their application. She encourages that Warriors note all relevant community service, volunteer activity, leadership roles, campus activities and employment. To ensure the submission of the most accurate documentation and up-to-date information, students may log in to their portfolio and make changes to their application until the March 1 deadline.

Because many of the awards require demonstration of financial need, students are also encouraged to also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to March 1, 2020. However, students can still complete their My Scholarship Portfolio without having a FAFSA on file.
