Hands up for hands-only resuscitation

The student organization University Hands Only CPR will be competing against other collegiate institutions in a state-wide challenge aimed at increasing the number of people who know the proper way to give cardiopulmonary resuscitation using only their hands.

Hands-only CPR can increase the survival chances of a person in need of cardiac resuscitation by two to three times, as compared to having no CPR performed and waiting for paramedics, yet relatively few citizens know how to perform it or feel confident doing so.

The challenge kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 22, and will last until Saturday, Sept. 28. The student group will be hosting drop-in workshops in the Wayne State Student Center throughout the week to teach as many Wayne State students as possible the tips, tricks and importance of hands-only CPR. The workshops are scheduled as follows in the Student Center:

Members from University Hands Only CPR will also be taking over Wayne State’s Instagram story on Tuesday, Sept. 24, to showcase an inside view of one of their workshops. For information regarding dates and times of the challenge-week workshops, check out the group’s Instagram, @universityhocpr.
