Nikki Dunham named new Director of Residence Life

Nikki Dunham has been named the new director of residence life in the Office of Housing and Residential Life.

Prior to starting at Wayne State, Dunham was an assistant director of residential Northwestern University. During her tenure at her previous institution, she had a focus on student leadership development and hopes to utilize her experience to further enhance the resident experience at Wayne State.

Dunham is excited to be a part of the Wayne State University community because of the university’s strong focus on hard work, dedication to student success, and learning. “I remember being so impressed with the focus on improving the residential student experience when I visited campus, and I will work with the team to keep that at the top of our priority list,” said Dunham. “My belief is that this can be achieved through clear and consistent communication, building engagement through the residential curriculum, and focusing on student leadership development and advocacy in the residence halls and apartments.”

Dunham will lead the residence life team, including eight community directors who live and work within the residence halls and apartments on campus. The residence life team engages campus residents in a curriculum designed to enhance student’s campus experience outside of the classroom.

“On behalf of our staff and residents, I am very happy to welcome Nikki to Wayne State as our new director of residence life,” said Tim Michael, associate vice president for Student Auxiliary Services and chief housing officer. “Selected after a national search, Nikki’s passion for student success and leadership development in an intentional, residential learning environment was evident during her interviews. As a Michigander, it’s great to have Nikki back, and I look forward to her positive impact on student life on our campus.”

Located on the fifth floor of the Student Center, the Office of Housing and Residence Life works to provide campus housing that’s home for Wayne State students. Over 3,000 residents living in six buildings call campus home each year.
