Annual Education Job Fair set for May 9

DETROIT – The Wayne State University College of Education will host its annual Education Job Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9. Wayne State students and alumni, students and graduates from education programs at colleges and universities throughout Michigan, and current education professionals seeking opportunities are encouraged to attend. The event, which is open to anyone interested in pursuing education careers, will take place in the Student Center Ballroom on Wayne State’s main campus.

“The college seeks to connect our students to career opportunities and ensure that school districts and organizations throughout the state have access to highly qualified educators who can make a positive difference in the lives of PK-12 students,” said Paul Johnson, assistant dean of the Division of Academic Services. “We hope students, alumni and others interested in education careers will take advantage of the opportunity to network and explore ways in which they can best serve our young people. We also appreciate the participation of the many organizations supporting the job fair and hope they are able to fill their open positions with viable candidates.”

Recruiters from organizations throughout the Midwest — including out-of-state school districts — will interview candidates for a variety of positions in teaching, administration, counseling, nutrition, psychology, social work, special education, speech pathology and other areas. More than 60 employers are expected to attend.

“The college makes the job fair available to anyone in the community interested in pursuing a career in education,” said Mary Waker, Ed.D., academic services advisor and coordinator of the event. “Individuals who want to teach and those interested in working in other capacities — including counselors, social workers, librarians and paraprofessionals — can explore their options at this event. Education students interested in boosting their communication, interviewing and networking skills should also attend.”

Participants can use the Career Fair Plus app to review job fair information and resources, including the list of recruiters, available positions and floor plans. Attendees should bring multiple copies of their resume and cover letter. They should also dress in professional attire.

Parking in Structure 5 is recommended. Participants who do not have a Wayne State University OneCard or parking tag will need a credit card for entry and exit. The cost is $8.

The job fair is free for participants who register online before May 7. Onsite registration is $10 (cash or check only). To sign up, visit coe.wayne.edu/jobfair.
