As part of its ongoing student success efforts, Wayne State's Office of Federal TRIO recently hosted a cutting-edge summit for young men that connected high school students from across the metro Detroit area with speakers, authors and workshops focused on a range of life skills.
The male summit, sponsored by Talent Search, brought more than 150 male students from schools in Hazel Park, Southfield and Detroit to the university’s McGregor Memorial Conference Center for the daylong event.
The March summit also included an awards presentation, a storytelling exhibition and a keynote address from Jason Wilson, author of the memoir Cry Like A Man: Fighting for Freedom from Emotional Incarceration.
The students – who came from Hazel Park High School, Hazel Park Advantage, Southfield High School A & T, Southfield Regional and University Preparatory Science and Math – also participated in workshops that focused on financial literacy, interview skills, study habits and goal setting.
