CFPCA to honor outstanding alumni and community members at 40th Arts Achievement Awards

The College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (CFPCA) at Wayne State University will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Arts Achievement Awards. Four outstanding alumni will be recognized for their artistic achievements and dedication to the arts at the 2019 event, which will take place on Thursday, April 18, at Wayne State’s McGregor Memorial Conference Center.

At this event, outstanding alumni and former students are recognized for their commitment to and advocacy for the arts and communication, and for achievements in their respective fields.

“The history of our arts and communication programs is extraordinary and evident by the individuals we honor each year,” said CFPCA Dean Matthew Seeger. “Through this awards program, the college demonstrates its commitment to the arts that extends beyond our classrooms, studios, rehearsal rooms, stages and concert halls to the larger community and to the careers our students build for themselves upon completing their degrees.”

This year’s awardees’ tributes range from a social media and digital communications expert for General Motors during its historical bankruptcy and a motion picture specialist in the U.S. Navy; to a noted “Young Lyons” of the international jazz scene and the first assistant stage manager of the original production of A Chorus Line.

The College will celebrate the award recipients during a special ceremony, which is free and open to the public. Interested guests are encouraged to RSVP by April 11.

2019 honorees include:

  • Mary Henige Career Achievement Award in the Field of Communication
  • Raymond Pointer Career Achievement Award in the Field of Art and Art History
  • Richard Margitza Career Achievement Award in the Field of Music
