MORE INFO: During the Nazi occupation of Poland, more than 3 million Polish Jews became victims of the Holocaust. They were systematically hunted, deported and murdered. After World War II, returning Polish Jews found a very hostile environment. Many left or refused to return. Of those who remained in Poland, some openly returned to their faith, while others continued to hide their Jewish identities until the end of Communism in 1989. Over the past 28 years, thousands of Poles have discovered they have Jewish roots.
Today, Polish Jews have the assistance of Rabbi Michael Schudrich, who has served as Chief Rabbi of Warsaw and Lodz since 2000 and Chief Rabbi of Poland since 2004. Schudrich, who is American born and educated, has been instrumental in reviving the once-vibrant Polish Jewish life and culture.
REGISTRATION INFO: RSVP by May 17 to rsvp@holocaustcenter.org, or call 248-536-9605. Seating is limited. $5 for Holocaust Memorial Center members, and $10 for nonmembers.
