WHAT:
Wayne State University business students will head to the Renaissance Center to vie for $1,750 in scholarship money as they take part in the second annual Mike Ilitch School of Business Elevator Pitch Competition. In the city's tallest and most iconic elevator, they'll practice their opening lines on Detroit executives during the course of a ride to the top.
The students have the 80-second ride up the Renaissance Center’s 72 stories to give an “elevator speech” about themselves, describing their education, skills and career aspirations. Executives from Ally Financial, Quicken Loans, Comerica and Fiat Chrysler will evaluate the students on their ability to sell themselves and present a positive, professional first impression. Three winners will receive scholarships of $1,000, $500 or $250.
WHEN:
10 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 3
Beginning at 10 a.m., each student will have two rides on the elevator with two different judges. The top five students will go on to pitch all judges in a boardroom setting. Prizes will be awarded around noon.
WHERE:
Detroit Renaissance Center; meet in the Renaissance Conference Center or at the base of the elevator in the Marriott tower.
