WHAT: 
Wayne State University’s Integrative Biosciences Center (IBio) will host the Urban Center for Antimicrobial Resistance Discovery, Education and Stewardship (UCARDES) Symposium. The symposium will bring together physicians, fellows, residents, researchers and students committed to improving the health of urban populations by advancing research that focuses on the reduction of antimicrobial resistance and the optimization of urban infection management. 

Antimicrobial resistance is a serious public health problem that affects patients across the nation and is especially troublesome for urban populations. An estimated 700,000 deaths are caused annually by antimicrobial resistance. 

UCARDES was established by Wayne State University to seek an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to address these health challenges and develop a unique urban model for treatment, prevention and infection management, knowledge application, and community outreach in Detroit.

About the Wayne State University Integrative Biosciences Center
Wayne State University — Detroit’s public, urban research university, — is home to the new Integrative Biosciences Center (IBio), a $90 million facility dedicated to studying and eliminating the many health disparities that plague the city’s residents.
