Join your friends and end Warrior Days on a high note by rallying behind the Wayne State football team during its 2016 home opener against the Lake Erie Storm on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Adams Field. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
The Warriors (1-1) hope to continue their streak of domination in the series against Lake Erie (0-2), having won five of the last six meetings against the Storm. This includes a 56-54 victory last year at Adams Field — the highest-scoring game in WSU history.
The first fans through the gates will receive thunder sticks, and the first 1,000 students can pick up an official Warrior Zone student section T-shirt. Also, make sure to stop by the Warrior Zone tent before the game or during the first half for a final chance to enter the Throw the First Pitch contest. One lucky winner, to be randomly selected at halftime, will have the honor of throwing out the first pitch before the Detroit Tigers game during the second annual Wayne State Night at Comerica Park on Sept. 27.
In addition, academic award winners will be recognized after the first quarter, and the Parade of Athletes will take place at halftime. Admission to the game — and all home sporting events — is free for WSU students with their OneCard.
“This is a big game for us. Lake Erie gave us a good run our money last year,” said team captain and senior linebacker Anthony DeDamos. “We’re still early in the season and we’ve had our ups and downs. This game will help us identify how we’ll perform as a team this year. ”
