Media Advisory: Wayne State School of Medicine welcomes 287 physicians-in-training at annual ‘White Coat Ceremony’ in Detroit

WHAT:
The Wayne State University School of Medicine will officially welcome its newest class of physicians-in-training at the annual White Coat Ceremony. Surrounded by family and friends, 287 new medical students making up the Class of 2020 will take turns on stage getting cloaked in a hip-length, three-button white coat meant to identify them as medical students for the next four years.

The new class includes 164 men and 123 women ranging from 20 to 46 years old and representing 19 states and Canada, including 209 from Michigan. The most common name for male students is Eric; for females, it is Lauren and Amanda. While all the students have earned an undergraduate degree, 49 also have a master’s degree and six already have a doctorate. These students are the best of the best – 4,770 applications were submitted to the school for this entering class.
