The Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business has announced the 2016 recipients of its three signature awards for alumni and friends of the school. Nancy Schlichting, Mark Davidoff and Krystina Borrocci — as well as student scholarship recipients and the yet-to-be-named Inspirational Teacher Award winner — will be honored at the school’s Annual Recognition and Awards Program on Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.

Michigan Executive of the Year
Nancy Schlichting
Chief Executive Officer, Henry Ford Health System

The Michigan Executive of the Year Award recognizes an individual in a senior leadership position at a business, government or non-profit organization that is based in, or has a substantial presence in, the state of Michigan. The primary criteria for selection of this award are recent or ongoing actions by the honoree and/or his or her organization that are likely to reflect positively on the state of Michigan and the disciplines researched and taught within the WSU School of Business.

Nancy Schlichting is chief executive officer of Henry Ford Health System (HFHS), a nationally recognized $5 billion health care organization with 27,000 employees. She is credited with leading the health system through a dramatic financial turnaround and for award-winning patient safety, customer service and diversity initiatives.

Schlichting’s career in health care administration spans more than 35 years in senior level executive positions. She joined HFHS in 1998 as its senior vice president and chief administrative officer, served as executive vice president and chief operating officer, president and CEO of Henry Ford Hospital and was named president and CEO of HFHS in 2003.

Schlichting serves on several national and community boards including the Kresge Foundation, Walgreens Boots Alliance, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago – Detroit Branch, Detroit Regional Chamber, Detroit Economic Club and Downtown Detroit Partnership. Nancy is also a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the International Women’s Forum. In 2015, Schlichting was appointed by President Obama to chair the Commission on Care.

Recently named one of the 100 Most Influential Women in Michigan by Crain’s Detroit Business, Schlichting has been honored with many awards in health care and leadership. She is a highly regarded expert and speaker on strategic leadership, quality, patient/family-centered care and diversity, and the author of the acclaimed book Unconventional Leadership.

Schlichting earned her A.B. in public policy studies, magna cum laude, from Duke University and her M.B.A. from Cornell University.

Emerging Leader Award
Krystina Borrocci ’07 ’10

The Emerging Leader Award recognizes a more recent graduate of the WSU School of Business who has already distinguished themselves as a “rising star” in their industry or community and who shows even greater promise for the future.

As UHY’s director of marketing, Krystina Borrocci is responsible for overseeing marketing initiatives in the Midwest and Southeastern regions. Borrocci is based in the firm’s Sterling Heights office and brings several years of experience in marketing and business development.
