Wayne State University has named Peter Caborn Edelman as its senior director for alumni relations and executive director of the Wayne State University Alumni Association, effective Feb. 1, 2016. Edelman will provide critical leadership in strengthening ties between the university and its large and committed base of alumni.
“Wayne State is delighted to welcome Peter and his skilled leadership to campus,” said Chacona W. Johnson, vice president for development and alumni affairs and president of the Wayne State University Foundation. “Peter’s extensive experience in development, alumni engagement and higher education management will be a tremendous resource for the university and for our alumni. He will lead our existing staff of talented and dedicated professionals in shaping an exciting future for the Wayne State University Alumni Association.”
Edelman comes to Wayne State from American University, where he excelled in multiple leadership roles in university advancement. He most recently served as assistant vice president of campaigns and planning.
Previously, Edelman served as director of major gifts and membership at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and as national advancement director for the National Center for Adoption Law and Policy at Capital University Law School.
Edelman is a graduate of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where he earned a bachelor of arts in international studies and French. He also holds a master’s in ethics, politics and public policy from the University of Essex in England.
The Wayne State University Alumni Association has been building loyalty and support among alumni for more than 80 years. The association strives to offer a broad base of communication and engagement opportunities to help all alumni stay connected with the university.
