Wayne Advantage-Macomb harnesses resources of both schools to support students in completing credentials
A new partnership between Macomb Community College and Wayne State University will allow qualified students to concurrently enroll at both institutions, getting a head start on a WSU bachelor’s degree while completing a Macomb certificate program or associate degree.
“We have been serving students in Macomb County for more than 40 years and are proud of the strong relationship we have with Macomb Community College,” said Wayne State University President M. Roy Wilson. “We are confident that Wayne Advantage-Macomb will help our two schools align even more as we strive to ensure that more Macomb County students earn associate and four-year degrees, which in turn will provide the well-prepared workforce that employers want and need.”
Wayne Advantage-Macomb features enrollment in both schools, coordinated financial aid calculated based on combined credit hours at both schools and joint academic advising. Students will be able to move seamlessly between Macomb and WSU to complete their plan of study, taking courses at either or both schools at the same time, supported by a joint transcripting process to assist students in staying on track.
“Wayne Advantage-Macomb is another important step in our collaboration with Wayne State University to equip more members of our community with the college credentials vital to fulfilling, sustainable careers,” said James Jacobs, president, Macomb Community College. “As longstanding partners, we continue to look at opportunities to tap the strengths of both institutions to avoid duplication, create additional higher ed opportunities for Macomb County residents and develop new ways to support student success and degree completion.”
Students enrolled in Wayne Advantage-Macomb will benefit from access to the extensive resources offered by a comprehensive community college and a major urban research university. These include access to both the Macomb and WSU library systems for research and course preparation; support for academic and career success from both institutions including tutoring, workshops, job opportunities and professional planning; Study Abroad programs; and events and student organizations at both Macomb and WSU.
Wayne Advantage-Macomb is open to any individual who meets Wayne State’s admission requirements and is interested in taking classes at both WSU and Macomb Community College. Students may apply at any point in their academic career, but deadlines for admission to WSU vary by term. More information about Wayne Advantage-Macomb is available at go.wayne.edu/wayne-advantage.
