Construction on the M-1 Rail transit project on Woodward Avenue is rolling toward Warren Avenue. For six weeks beginning Friday, Oct. 9, at 9 p.m., it will require detours for cars and pedestrians around that intersection.

Construction crews will lay down track and create a whole new roadway on the east side of Woodward. When the work is complete, the intersection will re-open until the spring, when the same thing will occur on the west side of Woodward.

One hundred and ninety detour signs will be erected to help direct traffic. The detours are as follows:

  • Vehicles traveling west on Warren from I-75 have two choices. Go north on Brush, west on Palmer and south on Woodward to westbound Warren. Or go south on John R, west on Canfield and north on Woodward to westbound Warren.
  • Vehicles traveling on eastbound Warren from the M-10 freeway will need to go south on Woodward, east on Canfield and north on John R to get to eastbound Warren.

Crosswalks will also be impacted and pedestrian detour signs will be posted.

Also, please be aware that there will be no parking on the following streets:

  • Palmer between Woodward and Brush
  • Westbound Warren between Warren and John R
  • Eastbound Warren between John R and Brush
  • Forest between Woodward and John R

Although thru traffic will be closed on Warren at John R, there will still be access to Parking Structure 3.

Crews will be working extended hours until construction at the intersection is complete. The M-1 Rail project is expected to be completed in 2017.
