Wayne State Student Design and Innovation Day to showcase research aimed at quality-of-life improvements

What: The Wayne State University College of Engineering will host its inaugural Student Design and Innovation Day. The event will showcase the work of engineering and computer science students, from senior capstone projects to research team endeavors with industry relevance and quality-of-life implications. More than 30 interactive projects from each of the college's eight departments will be on display, including a solar-powered security system for boats, a swing for children with special needs that adapts and grows with them, and a no-snow driveway.  

Media is invited to attend the showcase and speak with students, faculty and industry representatives, who collaborated on the research together. 

Notable projects on display:
•    No-snow driveway
•    Design of the Detroit Inner Circle Greenway
•    Development of a system to store the potential energy of a person standing on a floor mat
•    Smart surgical robotic arm
•    Solar-powered security system for boats
•    Virtual 3D comics using Google Cardboard
