Wayne State Junior Insiders welcomes kids to campus

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day (TODASTW) will be observed nationally on Thursday, April 23. To celebrate, special programming is planned for Wayne State Insiders and their families.

Children ages 5 to 18 will be able to participate in a variety of fun activities – from planetarium shows and museum visits to wall climbing and lunch at the Towers Café – between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“Incorporating the national observance with the Insiders was a natural since their mission is so closely aligned with ours,” said Amy Roberge, WSU marketing manager. “Junior Insiders gives kids the opportunity to experience university life, a start toward dreaming of their future.”

Carolyn McKecuen, TODASTW executive director, said the program is designed to be more than a career day or job shadow.

“Exposing girls and boys to what a parent or mentor in their lives does during the work day is important, but showing them the value of their education, helping them discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life, and providing them an opportunity to share how they envision the future and begin steps toward their end goals in a hands-on and interactive environment is key to their achieving success,” she said in a statement.

In order to participate in Junior Insiders at Wayne State, parents must be present with children and will need to sign a waiver. RSVP to receive a schedule of activities. For more information, call 313-577-4663 or email a.roberge@wayne.edu.

The Wayne State Insiders group includes alumni, friends, students, parents, faculty and staff who serve as informal ambassadors for Wayne State and the Midtown community. Since the group’s inception in 2012, thousands have attended events and toured sites on campus.
