Nearly 1,900 students representing more than 50 metro Detroit high schools are expected to converge upon the Wayne State campus for Advanced Placement Day (AP Day), hosted by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Irvin D. Reid Honors College and Undergraduate Admissions.

The 12th annual event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 28.

AP Day is designed to reward students who have been enrolled in AP courses, giving them a glimpse into college life with sample lectures covering topics from American government to world history.

Wayne State students, faculty and staff are encouraged to volunteer for certain tasks such as providing campus tours, escorting groups to campus locations, mingling with attendees and more.

Attendance at AP Day has grown over the years, with 1,390 attending in 2012 to an expected 1,900 this year.

“Volunteers really make a difference,” said Julie Hasse, manager of marketing operations. “We have an opportunity to showcase our campus and make a lasting impression on potential students.”
