Arthur Miller’s captivating drama, An Enemy of the People, adapted from Henrik Ibsen’s play, opens this weekend at the Hilberry Theatre. Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Miller wrote more than 30 critically acclaimed stage plays, and was proud to have begun his literary career right here in Michigan.

Opening Feb. 20 and running through March 28, An Enemy of the People sees tempers flaring and opinions colliding in a small Norwegian town when Dr. Stockmann discovers pollution in the medicinal baths that have made his town a destination. He and his brother, the mayor, argue over the best course of action: Should they close the baths immediately and begin a lengthy and expensive reconstruction process? Or do they conceal the truth in lieu of shutting down the lifeblood of the town? The brothers go head to head in a passionate confrontation that takes on political and ethical concerns.

Following the opening night performance on Friday, Feb. 20, the Hilberry Theatre Company will announce its upcoming 2015-16 season, accompanied by a reception featuring light refreshments, a cash bar, and a meet-and-greet with the cast of the show. Be the first to know what’s in the wings for next year.
