Wayne State students conducting potentially life-saving and life-enhancing research will have their findings on display Nov. 10-14, during Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Week.

Faculty, staff and especially students are encouraged to attend the weeklong celebration, which will highlight scholarship and creative activity at WSU.

“Not only do students who participate in undergraduate research have an important accomplishment to list on their resumes, they also learn in important ways that contribute to their success in other courses and in the workplace,” said Matthew Orr, Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program coordinator. “Students and faculty regularly report that undergraduate research experiences are among the most meaningful parts of their academic careers.”

Students from disciplines across the university — hard sciences, social sciences, performing arts, and humanities — are invited to participate in undergraduate research.

Orr encourages faculty to serve as mentors to undergraduate students interested in research.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) recently launched UROPConnect, a central site to foster and promote undergraduate research opportunities at WSU. Through UROPConnect, students can search for projects and faculty who have their same research interests and contact faculty members directly from their profile or any project page.

Applications and proposals for the 2015 Winter-Spring/Summer Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Awards are due Friday, Nov.21.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Week culminates Friday, Nov. 14, with a conference and award ceremony luncheon. For a complete list of events, visit urop.wayne.edu
