From China to Mexico and destinations in between, professors from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) spent

their summers trekking the globe in search of knowledge.

Whether conducting research in Japan on the evolution and development of insects, in the case of Aleksandar Popadic, professor of biological sciences, or studying the manuscripts of Benedictine nuns between 1600 and 1800 in England like Jaime Goodrich, associate professor of English, the CLAS faculty didn’t sit still.

Other globetrotters include:

  • Janine Marie Lanza, associate professor in the history department, who spent her summer vacation in Paris continuing research on the impact of changes in French law on women in families that owned businesses in 17th and 18th century Paris.
  • Robert Henderson, assistant professor of linguistics, who traveled to Guatemala to research contemporary Mayan languages, including recording the endangered language Uspanteko, which has fewer than 1,000 speakers.
  • Krysta Ryzewski, assistant professor of anthropology, who conducted archaeological research in the Caribbean islands of Montserrat and Antigua.
