Burton International students graduate

Burton International Academy celebrated its first graduating class since partnering with Wayne State University in 2013. Interim Senior Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation LaJoyce Brown participated in the eighth grade promotion ceremony held Tuesday, July 8.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions, with the help of several university departments, provides mentors, college and career information, field trips to  campus, parent meetings, and classroom visits for Burton's graduating middle school students.

Many of the students, including Wayne Epenit-Banas, will attend Cass Technical High School, where WSU hosts Warrior Thursdays. The outreach program is one of many that gives prospective and currently admitted students an opportunity to speak with Wayne State admissions representatives to learn about admission requirements, scholarships and other aspects of the university.

Epenit-Banas, whose father is a Cass Tech and Wayne State alumnus, plans to study chemistry and biology in high school and medicine in college. Hopefully, he’ll follow in his father’s footsteps and attend Wayne State.
