MONDAY: Detroit's School of Medicine will graduate 270 new doctors; more than half will stay in Michigan

Media Advisory

WHAT:

After four years of intense studying and clinical rotations in and around Detroit, the 270 men and women who make up the Wayne State University School of Medicine Class of 2014 will earn the title of doctor of Medicine. The commencement ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, May 19, at the Fox Theatre, 2211 Woodward Ave., in Detroit. Their next step to becoming a board certified physician is residency, and a whopping 56.7 percent will begin one in Michigan next month. This is great news for a state with a projected physician shortage, as studies show that medical residents who train in Michigan overwhelmingly will remain here to practice and serve Michigan and its communities.
