WSU Press’s Made in Michigan Writers Series (MIMWS) marks nine years of outstanding publications this month. As the state’s only literary imprint devoted solely to the publication of Michigan-based authors, the MIMWS is proving that “lit in the mitt” is not only alive, but thriving.

Celebrate this season’s amazing crop of new books and authors during Strings & Steel: A Spring Celebration of the Made in Michigan Writers Series from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), 4454 Woodward Ave.

The festive event features readings, a steel drummer, video presentation, music, and even puppets.

In addition to the Made in Michigan event, WSU Press has partnered with several other Detroit social groups to create an entire month of literature-themed programming called Lit in the Mitt Month. Detroit-based, book-loving organizations like Nerd Nite 313, Literary Detroit, Source Booksellers, the Book Club of Detroit, Signal-Return, the Scarab Club, and the Detroit Drunken Historical Society will host events throughout the month celebrating creative writing, each in their own unique way.
